New and Old and Late

Those three words would be referring to this year, last year, and this post.

As our church's pastor was out of town, my Dad preached on the first Sunday of this year. A gentleman in our church put it into rhyme very nicely. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to write poetry.

"Thus saith the LORD, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein."
Jeremiah 6:16

It's not in pathways men devise,
that leads to God about;
or the old that men revise
 That's stained with drops of love.

The blood-stained pathway, it may wind,
But the end is sure;
At the final bend we'll find,
Our nail pierced Saviour.

The other paths may look correct,
Straight and sure and right;
Is God- or man- the architect?
Is it by faith- or sight?

If it's right, then walk in it,
If wrong then turn away;
God giveth wisdom definite,
The more we stand- and pray.

Rest your soul for He will provide,
As you let Him lead;
 Let His wisdom be your guide,
Let Him supply each need.

Tried and tested are the old,
sure to get you through.
The old, old story oft retold,
Though mocked, is ever new.

Seek for the old, be not afraid
Seek humbly, and sincere;
"Search me, and know me," if it's prayed,
God in heav'n will hear.

He will not force, it's His request,
To do as He let's know;
His the way, the very best,
Though "why" He may not show.

Holding to the ancient way,
I know his way I'll see;
Lord, help me, guide me, till that day,
I know eternity!

Be thankful,
 Sarah
